Our story

H. Blackham & Son, Rugby, began in a cellar at 49 Albert Street. It was opened in 1900 as a branch practice by Ernest Eugene Crowhurst following his completed apprenticeship in Leamington

He signed as an apprentice in 1894 for the firm and was under the supervision of his brother-in-law Arthur Blackham.

Emest worked long hours under flickering gas light. He expanded the business of optics and later included photography. If lead to the requirement of moving in the same street to larger premises at 17,19 & 21. He remained a director into his 80's but his two sons, Gerrard and Richard actively ran the practice along with Mr. G. Bailey. The practice then carried on with a succession of optometrists.

Messrs. E. May. G. Teers and N. Macdonald. Each added their own individual skills to the progress of the practice. That continues today with the present owner Mr. Patel
